Jan H Nyboer, M.D.

Dr. Nyboer received his ophthalmology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. An additional highlight of his training was a three-month surgical rotation at the Guiness Eye Clinic, Kaduna, Nigeria, Africa. Previously, he received an M.D. and M.S. from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. 

Always a forerunner in establishing a progressive clinic, using state-of-the-art medical equipment and treatment, Dr. Nyboer was the first in Anchorage to offer PRK and LASIK laser surgery in 1996.

Dr. Nyboer is also Rear Admiral, Medical Corps, U.S. Navy Reserve, Ret. His active duty began in 1970 in the aerospace medicine flight surgeon program at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. Later he became commanding officer, NR Fleet Hospital NINE, Sand Point, WA. He also served as fleet medical officer, CINCUSNAVEUR, London, UK. His last assignment was with the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Nyboer has lived in Anchorage since 1976. His interests have been long-distance running, triathlons, piano and BSF..

At this time Dr. Nyboer is not seeing patients and highly endorses Dr. Stemmle and Dr. Lamigo for both old and new patients to the practice. He does so with faith in their ability and knowledge and that they will treat you in a caring manner.

Jackie Lamigo, O.D.

Dr. Lamigo grew up in Anchorage as a patient of Dr. Nyboer, who sparked her interest in eye care. She completed a BS degree in Biological Sciences and Chemistry at San Jose State University in California. She then obtained her doctorate at Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry, where she was awarded the Founding Dean Scholarship.

Her clinical rotations were completed at a cataract surgical center in Florida, a Veterans hospital in New Jersey (focusing on glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy), a pediatric clinic in Colorado (focusing on strabismus, amblyopia, and vision therapy), and a Marine Corp-Naval Hospital in California (focusing on pre-LASIK exams and eye injuries).

Dr. Lamigo is passionate about bringing eye care to those in need.. She participated in several humanitarian outreach projects, including traveling to Peru and El Salvador. As a health advocate, she enjoys educating others about eye care and nutrition.

She is qualified to prescribe therapeutic agents for treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eyes. She is Alaska Board approved and certified to perform laser procedures such as yag capsulotomy for after-cataract surgery and selective laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma. She is certified to perform photofacial “laser” using the Cynosure IPL for treating ocular rosacea. She is also certified to perform dry eye treatments such as Systane iLux. Dr. Lamigo is an active member of the Alaska and American Optometric Associations.

In her spare time she enjoys hiking with her family, oil painting, snowboarding, and doing crafts with her children.

Christie Stemmle, O.D.

Growing up in Southern California, Dr. Stemmle worked in the family business of making hard and gas permeable contact lenses; sparking her interest in specialty contact lens designs.

Dr. Stemmle graduated from UC San Diego and received her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry. She spent a year teaching in the contact lens clinic at grad school and working as a contact lens fitting consultant for a large soft contact lens manufacturer. Her research topic was on gas perm contact lens flexure on corneas with increasingly high astigmatism. She received the Allergan Contact Lens Research Award for outstanding research and expertise in the fitting of contact lenses.

She joined Dr. Nyboer in 1985. She has served as president the Alaskan Optometric Association and belongs to the Scleral Lens Society.

Dr. Stemmle enjoys challenging contact lens fits and receives state-wide referrals of patients who have not been able to achieve good vision with regular contacts. Many of these patients have had corneal transplants, keratoconus, or extreme dry eye problems. Dr. Stemmle fits “medically necessary” lens for patients with extremely irregular eye shapes or prescriptions. 

In addition to doing regular exams, Dr. Stemmle treats eye infections, provides care for diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration, and prepares patients for LASIK and cataract surgery.  She is certified to use the Cynosure IPL laser, iLUX, and the Ellex YAG/SLT laser. Dr. Stemmle welcomes new patients and their families..
