Eye Exams in Anchorage, Alaska

Every exam covers four areas. What we add beyond them depends on your risk factors and health history.

Visual acuity testing

We test how clearly your eyes see at various distances. Adequate vision is important for daily tasks such as reading, computer use, and driving.

Refraction

Determines whether your eyes are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, and measures the exact prescription needed for glasses or contact lenses. We also evaluate for presbyopia, the need for reading glasses, which typically develops after age 40.

Ocular health examination

Using advanced equipment including a slit-lamp microscope, Optos retinal imaging, and OCT (optical coherence tomography), we examine the internal and external structures of your eyes to check for cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other conditions.

Additional testing as needed

Intraocular pressure measurement, corneal topography, visual field testing, and fundus photography, depending on your risk factors and health history.

Glaucoma and other eye diseases often have no early warning signs, and an eye exam can also reveal health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. If it has been more than a year, or you are not sure when your last exam was, it is time.
