No appointment is needed to visit our optical. Walk in any time we are open to browse frames, get a repair, or have your glasses adjusted. Our opticians have more than 40 years of experience between them, and they are credentialed: board certified through the American Board of Opticianry and licensed by the State of Alaska. That shows up in the parts you do not see, like the measurements, the fit, and knowing which lens will actually work for your prescription. We keep a hand-picked selection of frames in stock, cut many lenses in our own lab, and accept prescriptions from other eye doctors.

Can I fill a prescription from another eye doctor at Southside Eyecare?

Yes. Southside Eyecare & Optical in Anchorage accepts outside prescriptions, and you do not need an appointment. Our opticians will help you choose frames and lenses and fit them properly. We cut and finish many prescriptions in our own lab, and for advanced or highly customized lens designs we work with specialty partner labs.

An Optical Lab Right Here

Because our lab is here in the office, our opticians can adjust your glasses, replace lenses, and repair frames without sending them out. Many prescriptions are cut and finished on site, which means a faster turnaround. Advanced and highly customized designs go to specialty partner labs so the accuracy is right. Can you repair my glasses?

Yes. Our in-house lab handles frame repairs and lens replacement. No appointment is needed, so bring your glasses in any time we are open and our opticians will take a look.

Can I put new lenses in my current frames?

Often, yes. Our opticians will check that your frames are in good shape and will work with your new prescription, then replace the lenses in our lab.

Does insurance cover glasses?

Many vision plans include an allowance for frames and lenses. We bill VSP directly. We are out of network with some plans, including United Healthcare and Meritain, and we can still bill those for you. For a plan we do not bill, you are still welcome here and you would submit the claim yourself.
